A Reluctant Artist

selflinkedin pic2.png

I am an American currently located in China. I have studied art informally since childhood, starting with 90s cartoons and comic books, both of which influence my style to this day. As I grew to appreciate fine art, my toolkit expanded from pencils and inks to include acrylics. I practiced figure painting for a while and found that I am a poor man's Egon Schiele. Perhaps with a bit more attention to detail I can become a poor man's Gustav Klimt. Around 2015 I started freelancing, doing portrait illustrations for The Partially Examined Life podcast under the pseudonym Solomon Grundy, not yet ready to identify myself as an artist. However, I gained more confidence while I wrote and storyboarded children's books from 2018-2022. In the interim, I picked up digital painting and have been using Photoshop ever since to create quick, clean work that is fit for the web.
